WCN & Cloudscape Brazil 2016, CSBC 2016, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil
Excellence of cloud computing, research and industry, under one roof. 6/7th July 2016, Porto Alegre, Brazil
06 Jul 2016 to 07 Jul 2016
In conjunction with the annual Conference of the Brazilian Computing Society (CSBC) taking place in Porto Alegre (Brazil) between 4th and 7th July, EUBrasilCloudFORUM organized:
WCN Workshop on Cloud Networks, 6th July: brought together well-experienced researchers, engineers, and practitioners from academia, industry and government to discuss and advance the state-of-the-art research, advances and practice in the emerging area of cloud-based networks and applications.
Cloudscape Brazil 2016, 7th July: The 3rd edition had the ambition to shape cloud developments in both Brazil and Europe, by covering the latest cloud trends, shows real-life case studies and future co-funding opportunities.
To create a consolidated and continuous platform that promotes both European & Brazilian excellence in the areas of cloud computing, big data & Internet of Things (IoT), leveraging the cloud model, and encourage the usage of common and standardised templates for Cloud SLAs to facilitate the usage and comparison of cloud services. The objective of the platform is to promote novel tools to support European & Brazilian SMEs & Start-ups to use cloud computing in a more efficient way, and make them better informed around data protection, security & legal issues.

A Special Interest Group (SIG) on Cloud Computing
During these two days, the EUBrasilCloudFORUM team and the event delegates interacted with the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) to initiate a SIG (Special Interest Group) in Cloud Computing, formed by Brazilian academic experts in order to define a roadmap for the Brazilian research community in this area for the upcoming years, with inputs also coming from EU experts. This SIG will also be responsible for organising future technical themed workshops to strengthen the collaboration between academia and industry in Brazil.
A selection of relevant topics for ICT cooperation between Europe and Brazil
The Workshop on Cloud Networks (WCN) featured a call for papers to stimulate the particpation of the industrial and academic research communities on the latest challenges, technologies, solutions and techniques related to networking within the cloud and to the efficient and effective cloud deployment and hosting of the various emerging applications and services. In parallel, Cloudscape Brazil collected a series of Position Papers bringing insights into the current market trends, the challenges slowing down mainstream adoption of cloud services and the best practices to address them. Position Papers discussing policy issues around taxation, bandwidth, energy pricing and data protection both in Brazil and Europe are relevant for Cloudscape Brazil.
A White Paper for the EU-Brazil Policy Dialogue meeting on ICT in November, 2016
EUBrasilCloudFORUM has the mandate from the European Commission (EC) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Portuguese: Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação (MCTI) of Brazil, to support the EU-BR collaborative projects in the collection and promotion of their results and activities. The results will be used to draft a Research Roadmap on cloud computing. The roadmap will identify collaboration needs and opportunities between Europe and Brazil for the EC and to MCTI, thus contributing to the definition of future cooperation priorities between the two regions. The outcomes of the discussions taking place during the Workshop on Cloud Networking and Cloudscape Brazil are collected in this post event report. A White paper will also be submitted to the EC and to the MCTI to contribute with tangible inputs to the EU-Brazil Policy Dialogue planned for November, 2016.
A dedicated Working Group
EUBrasilCloudFORUM has established a Working Group (WG) to support efforts in collecting inputs from a wider pool of experts in EU-Brazil in relation to cloud computing, including security aspects. During WCN & Cloudscape Brazil 2016, a dedicated session was held with a primary goal to gather valuable feedback from the audience interactively on a number of questions, in order to find out whether we are on target with the selected future scenarios and research opportunities. The benefits to participation in the WG were also outlined, including the ability to voice areas of interest and hot topics towards the building of the calls from the very beginning, including participation to the workshop being held alongside the annual Policy Dialogue meetings planned in Autumn in 2016, where these topics are typically decided for future Joint calls by the funding agencies in both countries to build new EUBR joint calls. If you are interested in one or more of the above register here to become part of our active working group.
