FUTEBOL

About

"FUTEBOL" brings together network experts in Europe and Brazil to create infrastructure for experimental research at the wireless/optical boundary, enabling industry leadership on significant trends in future networks, including virtualization and cell densification."
Luiz da Silva, Trinity College Dublin, FUTEBOL project coordinator
Goal
  • Develop and deploy research infrastructure, and an associated control framework, for experimentation that enables experimental research at the convergence point between optical and wireless networks.

OBJECTIVES & FOCUS

Both Europe and Brazil:
  • Deploy facilities to be accessed by external experimenters for experimentation that requires integration of wireless and optical technologies
  • Develop & deploy a converged control framework for experimentation at the optical/wireless boundary
  • Conduct experimental research using optical/wireless facilities
  • Create sustainable ecosystem of collaborative research & industrial/academic partnerships
  • Create education & outreach materials for a broad audience interested in experimental issues in wireless & optical networks

expected RESULTS

  • 3 federated optical/wireless facilities in Europe + 3 in Brazil enabled for external experimenters
  • 6 non-consortium partners using the FUTEBOL research infrastructure
  • 3 showcase experiments at least 1 European and 1 Brazilian Partner
  • Attend ETSI technical committee meetings, meet with ANATEL, organize workshops with telecom operators…
